Describing hemorrhoid symptoms can be totally different depending on the type of hemorrhoid the person is experiencing. For people with external hemorrhoids, the symptoms can be characterized as an intense pain experience especially during defecation and strenuous physical activity. This pain results from the increased pressure that pushes the pockets of blood normally found in tiny blood vessel beneath the skin layer. These thrombosed veins may cause formation of hard nodules just external to the anus, and when posed to pressure, they tend to become painful and sometimes blood oozes out of it.
Blood loss is another common complaint of people suffering from hemorrhoids and usually this accompanies both external and internal hemorrhoids. Patients may first observe tiny streaks of blood on the tissue paper when cleaning the rectal area, but as the condition get worse, people suffering from it may find increased amounts of blood on their underwear. While this symptom requires immediate medical consult, bleeding hemorrhoids are rarely serious. Emergency surgery is only necessary in cases where the blood supply of the vein is completely cut off and the pain is severe.
Most people suffering from hemorrhoids would also complain of itching. This is a major discomfort that occurs with both external and internal hemorrhoids. Since internal hemorrhoids tend to produce mucus that travels through the anal canal, the skin encircling it becomes itchy and irritated. External hemorrhoids become severe by constricted clothing and movement. The swollen veins ends up inflamed and there is an urge to scratch.
Another common complaint of people suffering from hemorrhoid symptoms, either external or internal, is undue urge to move the bowel despite completing bowel movement. This sore urge is brought about by the bulged tissues of the anal canal or the tissues on its outer edge. Patient reports a persistent feeling of the need to strain even if the stool has already passed out.
All of these descriptions of hemorrhoid symptoms boil down into one thing, there’s something totally wrong in their body thus they need treatment right away. It is not uncommon for people to take these symptoms lightly and try home remedies. However, it is highly recommended that patients receive proper medical consult to rule out other serious conditions, such as colon cancer, with similar symptoms.
